Whiteabbey: Two children taken to hospital after hit and run

Two children have been taken to hospital following a crash in Whiteabbey, County Antrim.

The two-vehicle collision happened on the Shore Road shortly after18:00 BST on Saturday.

A red BMW travelling towards Carrickfergus was in a collision with a blue Ford Focus, police have said.

Passengers in both vehicles were treated by ambulance crews but the driver of the BMW made off from the scene and has not yet been located.

Sgt Dickson said efforts "remain ongoing tonight to detain the driver".

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said it dispatched a rapid response paramedic and three emergency crews.

Following initial treatment at the scene, the children were taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital.

Police appealed for information and urged anyone who witnessed the crash or with dashcam footage to contact them.
