A flock of sheep has been stolen from a farm to the south of Coleraine, police have said.

A "substantial number" of the animals were taken from a field in Rhee Lane in County Londonderry on Tuesday.

Officers found rope securing a farm gate had been cut, allowing the flock to be released and stolen.

Ch Insp McIldowney described the theft as a "huge financial loss to the owner" and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

"If you spotted any unknown vehicles such as trailers, please do get in touch," she said.
