Carrickfergus: Cyclist dies following collision with car

A 45-year-old cyclist has died following a crash in Carrickfergus, County Antrim.

The man, who was from Newtownabbey, was cycling along the New Line road at about 09:30 GMT when he was involved in a collision with a car.

He died at the scene, police said.

"Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision," Sgt Green said.

Police have asked anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened, or who may have captured mobile phone or dash-cam footage, to contact them.

Child's life-threatening injuries

Meanwhile, a young child is in a stable condition in hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in a crash in County Down, according to police.

The collision, which occurred on Belfast Road in Comber shortly before 14:00 GMT on Friday, involved a grey Ford Transit van and a black Seat Leon.

A man in his 60s, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 20s were also all taken to hospital.

A section of the road was closed for a time but has since reopened.

Police have issued an appeal for anyone with any information or who may have dash-cam footage of the incident to contact them.

Lurgan collision

Also on Sunday, in Lurgan a man in his 60s was taken to hospital following a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

The incident took place on Avenue Road shortly after 13:45 GMT and was attended by police and paramedics.

The man's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Police have appealed for information and footage.
