Bangor flats fire: Person taken to hospital as a precaution

A fire at a block of flats in Bangor in County Down, is believed to be arson, police have said.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the fire at Crochan Court, just after 01:35 GMT on Sunday.

The fire was put out, but damage was caused to a rear door of the building along with minor smoke damage to the interior.

A resident of the building was taken to hospital by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service as a precaution.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it was believed that the fire was started deliberately and "was caused by pouring an accelerant over the door".

Police have appealed for information about the incident.

'Reckless attack'

North Down Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) assembly member Stephen Dunne said it was an "abhorrent attack".

"There is absolutely no place for this type of activity," he said.

"This fire could have had very serious consequences, and I know this reckless attack has shocked the local community."
