NI weather: Possible flooding as more heavy rain forecast
- Published
There could be localised flooding in parts of Northern Ireland as more heavy rain is forecast for Wednesday.
A yellow weather warning for rain was issued for County Down on Monday night.
Rainfall totals were highest overnight in south Antrim, County Down and parts of County Armagh.
However, the rainfall was generally in the range of 10-15 mm, rather than the 30-40mm that was forecast. More rain is forecast for Wednesday.
Given that the rain will be falling on saturated ground, it is likely that there will be localised flooding.
It is possible the Met Office will issue a weather warning ahead of Wednesday morning.
As the next weather system moves in for Wednesday, this time northern and western counties are likely to bear the brunt of the larger rainfall totals.
About 10-15 mm of rain is expected widely and some weather models suggest 15-20 mm in parts of the west.
Temperatures to rise and fall
Once rain clears east on Tuesday the day will improve with mainly dry weather, sunny spells, and just a few scattered showers.
Wednesday's rain will introduce warmer air and Thursday will be a mostly dry day for many and with temperatures forecast to reach about 17C, which would make it the warmest day of the year so far.
Temperatures are then forecast to drop again over the weekend and early next week could be well below the average for mid-April.
