Solar dome planned for Londonderry

If approved, the park's new Acorn Farm will include a 20m solar dome
Plans have been lodged that would see a 20m-tall solar dome constructed in a Londonderry park.
The dome would act as the centrepiece of a community education facility and farm if the plans for St Columb's Park are approved.
Derry City and Strabane District Council's application also covers the redevelopment of the park's historic walled garden and an unused helipad.
About £370,000 of EU funding has been secured for part of the project.
The solar dome will form the focal point of the park's new acorn farm which will include an outdoor classroom and amphitheatre. A number of smaller domes and polytunnels are also detailed in the proposals.
The regeneration plans were part of their Strategic Growth Plan that aims to spark wider economic regeneration in the city, said the council.
"It is proposed to restore the historic Walled Garden back to its original design and lay-out," said a spokesperson.
"The Charley Dimmock Garden will be replaced with a formal lavender garden whilst the disused helipad site will be transformed into a community/educational resource."
The plans are due to be discussed by the council's planning committee in the next few weeks.
