Falkland Islands future: Galloway, Johnson and Portillo

Former Home Secretary Alan Johnson said there was logic in George Galloway's comments in his film on sharing sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, but it would not happen after British blood was spilt to save them.

Michael Portillo said the islanders "could have dropped out of Sussex", there was no history of Argentine settlement on the islands and it had a purely British population - unlike Gibraltar.

Mr Galloway said previous Labour and Conservative governments had discussed sharing the islands ahead of the 1982 conflict, as he called for talks to improve UK relations with South America.
