Ashdown: Rich must not use charity tax relief to dodge taxes

Lord Ashdown has said there is a "sensible balance to be struck" regarding proposed tax relief caps, which charities say could seriously affect the amount they receive in donations.

Wealthy donors can offset their tax bill against donations, but the government wants to limit this to £50,000, or 25% of a person's income if that is higher.

Lord Ashdown told the BBC's Andrew Marr to "just imagine if everybody did this... no taxes, no hospitals, no schools, no welfare."
