Getting more working class MPs
Parliament is often accused of failing to reflect society and people from working class or manual backgrounds rarely get a look in. But Labour MP Jon Trickett wants to end the domination of his party by university educated MPs who made all the right contacts by working at Westminster as researchers and advisers. Mr Trickett has been telling me about how Labour is trying to increase the numbers of working class candidates the party selects. He told me the days of a manual worker becoming an MP after serving as a trade union official, have almost vanished.
