Voters may forgive MPs for drug taking and past crimes

Polling has shown 55% of people were annoyed if an MP had never had a "real" job, and 38% thought that going to Eton and not understanding how real people live would be a problem in a leading politician.

But they were less bothered if a politician had a racy past. Only 13% thought that taking drugs when young made someone unsuitable to be a politician, while only 9% were worried about bankruptcy and 5% about being caught shoplifting.

Adam Fleming tested out the figures to to see if the public really were that forgiving about what potential leaders may have done in their past.
