Philip Davies MP on book ban for prisoners court case

The judge who found the ban on sending books to prisoners unlawful was "absolutely wrong" and it was an "idiotic decision", said a Tory MP.

Philip Davies said that prison libraries were "better stocked than the public libraries", with 11 books per prisoner in Leeds, and 16 per inmate in HMP Wakefield, but only one book per resident in Shipley public library.

Mr Justice Collins said he could see "no good reason" to restrict access to books for prisoners in England and Wales. The Prison Service is looking at how deal with the ruling about what prisoners can receive in parcels.
