Michael Gove: Tories want May until next election

The "overwhelming majority of MPs and the entirety of the cabinet" support the prime minister, the environment secretary has said.

Michael Gove's comments followed former party chairman Grant Shapps admitting being one of the leaders of an attempt to persuade Mrs May to call a leadership election.

May should stay "as long as she wants," Mr Gove told the Today programme.
