Woman dies in crash with tour bus which shuts A9

A woman has died after the car she was driving was involved in a crash with a tour bus on the A9 in Perthshire.

Emergency services were at the scene for several hours and the road had to be closed in both directions between Dunkeld and Pitlochry.

The bus driver is understood to have broken his wrists, while some passengers received cuts and bruises.

The road closure caused delays for people heading to the Rock Ness festival at Dores near Inverness.

Tayside Police said the 52-year-old woman, from the Crieff area, was driving south when her car was involved in the collision with a northbound single-decker bus at Dowally, shortly before 1500 BST.

No-one else was in the car at time.

'Tour bus'

The 61-year-old bus driver was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

Police said eight of the 39 passengers, believed to be tourists from England, were treated at the scene.

A replacement coach took them to their final destination.

The A9 was reopened at about 2330 BST.

A Tayside Police spokesman added: "It is recognised that motorists experienced extended journey times and delays as a result of the necessary diversions, which had to be implemented.

"Tayside Police wish to thank drivers and their passengers for their patience and co-operation following this tragic incident."
