Public vote for Scottish Album of the Year

Karine Polwart, Calvin Harris, Emeli Sande and Admiral Fallow are among the nominees

A 24-hour public vote is being held to allow music fans to help determine which artist or band will win the 2013 Scottish Album of the Year title.

The awards are only in their second year and are billed as the equivalent of the Mercury Music Prize.

A long-list of the 20 titles in the running for the award was announced last month.

The album with the most online public votes will secure an automatic place on a shortlist of ten.

The long-list was drawn up by "nominators", including music journalists, bloggers, radio presenters, promoters, venues, club DJs, festival organisers, academics and music fans.

Emeli Sande and Calvin Harris both feature, with Our Version of Events and 18 months in the running for the £20,000 prize.

The list also includes Edinburgh psych-rockers Django Django, Glasgow electro band Errors and pop folk group Admiral Fallow.

The Scottish Album of the Year showcases the diversity of music being made across the country.

Last year the prize went to Aidan Moffat and Bill Wells with their combined effort Everything's Getting Older.

The fans' most popular album from this year's nominated albums is due to be revealed later this week, with the other nine titles chosen by an independent panel of judges.

Over the past few weeks, music fans have been able to listen to all 20 long-listed albums online.

The winner will be announced on 20 June.
