Fresh talks on Faroese herring catch sanctions

The Faroese pelagic fleet's herring quota has concerned Scottish fishermen

Fresh negotiations after European sanctions were brought in against the Faroe Islands over herring fishing are set to get under way.

Tensions have been growing since the small North Atlantic country trebled its previous share of the catch.

The Faroese government said it had reacted to a change in migration habits leading to more fish in its waters, and is calling for a negotiated settlement.

The two-day talks are being held in London.

The sanctions came into force last week.

Meanwhile, chief executive of Peterhead Port Authority has spoken out in support of the EU sanctions.

John Wallace said they were "robustly thought through".
