Calls have been made for Scottish crews to be allowed to use some of this year's quotas in 2015 instead

Scottish fishermen need European support to cope with sanctions from Russia, according to an MEP.

Moscow has banned imports from the EU in a row over the situation in Ukraine.

Concerns are being raised about the impact those measures are having on fishermen, particularly in the north east of Scotland.

Scottish Conservative MEP Ian Duncan said crews should be allowed to use some of this year's quotas in 2015 instead.

He said: "In the short term, we need to ensure there is adequate funding to make sure the fish processors are not in trouble.

"We have also got to make sure the quota that the fishermen can't catch or want to catch this year is able to be caught next year.

"After that, we need to look at the world and see where our top quality fish can be eaten."
