Coastguards mark 200 years of saving lives at sea

Coastguards around the UK have been marking 200 years of the service that saves lives along the coast and at sea.

Members of the service gathered to cast throwlines, used in rescues, into the waters where they operate as a symbol of the service's dedication.

Her Majesty's Coastguard, now part of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, was founded in January 1822.
