The body of a 77-year-old man who was swept into the River Tay has been found.

Police said the discovery was made at about 12:25 near Haugh Island, Logierait in Tayside, nearly a week after he fell into the water.

Struan Robertson was trying to clear a hydropower device in Perthshire when he lost his footing.

The body has still to be formally identified, but the force said Mr Robertson's family has been informed.

A spokesperson said: "There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

Heavy rain and flooding was seen in parts of Scotland, including Perthshire, last weekend.

Mr Robertson's son Euan told The Courier newspaper that his father had been dragged away by the current in front of his wife on Sunday.

Specialist resources including a police helicopter and drones were sent to search for him on Monday amid "challenging" conditions.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it searched the area for more than three hours on Sunday night.
