‘Child abuse’ to supply Niddrie rioters with fireworks, say police

Children involved in Sunday's disorder in Niddrie were "exploited" by adults, the man leading Police Scotland's fireworks policing programme says.

Assistant Chief Constable Tim Mairs told BBC Scotland News that the force has gathered evidence of adults "actively supplying fireworks to children and being involved in the co-ordination" of the disorder.

"That, to me, is child abuse," ACC Mairs said. "You’re putting children into harm's way."
