Olivia Dewar, 17, dies after Bahrain car crash

A Scottish teenager has died three months after being knocked down by a car in Bahrain.

Olivia Dewar, 17, suffered serious injuries to her head and upper body when she was hit by a car in the village of Saar on 14 December 2010.

She moved there in August 2010 when her father Gordon Dewar, former managing director at Edinburgh airport, became Bahrain Airport's chief executive.

Olivia died at Edinburgh's Western General Hospital on Wednesday.

She was initially treated in hospital in Bahrain but was transferred to Scotland in February.

Mr Dewar said: "As Olivia's family, Caroline, Georgia and I would like to thank all who have offered their support and concern for the tragically early loss of our daughter and big sister.

"Olivia was always motivated by helping others and doing the right thing while managing to bring her unique brand of energy, fun and humour to everything she threw herself into.

"We will all miss our beautiful, talented and kind little girl greatly for the rest of our lives."

He said they had been "overwhelmed by support" since his daughter's accident.

Olivia also leaves her mother Caroline and younger sister Georgia, 16.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: "All at Edinburgh Airport wish to pass on their condolences to Gordon and his family.

"The loss of any young life is particularly cruel, but Olivia was part of the extended airport family and we feel it all the more sharply."
