Riordan is to stand trial over an incident with door staff at HMV Picture House
The footballer Derek Riordan is to go on trial for alleged hate crime.
He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to face charges of breach of the peace and using anti-homosexual language to door staff at an Edinburgh nightclub.
He earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail on condition he stayed out of Edinburgh city centre between 19:00 and 07:00.
The 29-year-old claims he acted in self defence during a struggle at the Picture House, Lothian Road on 7 May.
The Crown said the former Hibs and Celtic player, from Edinburgh, became involved in a struggle with staff after being asked to leave.
Sheriff Fiona Reith QC granted Riordan bail and adjourned the case until 9 October, when the trial is expected to begin.
