Sculpture erected to honour Army pipers

The eight-foot sculpture of the Army piper took two years to create

An eight-foot bronze sculpture has been erected as a lasting monument to recognise the sacrifice of all Army pipers killed in past conflicts.

The huge Army piper has been installed outside the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming at Edinburgh's Redford Barracks.

It will be officially unveiled on Sunday.

Internationally renowned Scottish sculptor Alan Heriot created the statue during a two-year project.

Major Steven Small, director of Army Bagpipe Music, said: "Throughout history pipers and drummers have been inspiring their comrades through unswerving devotion to duty under the most testing of circumstances.

"Their honour is now formally recognised and properly remembered.

"It is with great pride that we see this fitting tribute to pipers and drummers completed."
