Serial killer Peter Tobin has returned to jail after treatment in hospital following a suspected stroke.

The 69-year-old fell ill in his cell at Saughton Prison in Edinburgh on Sunday.

He was believed to have been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance. He then went back to prison on Monday.

Tobin is serving life sentences for murdering Polish student Angelika Kluk, Scots schoolgirl Vicky Hamilton and Essex teenager Dinah McNicol.

Tobin was convicted of murdering 23-year-old Angelika Kluk at a church in Glasgow in 2006.

The following year, the bodies of 18-year-old Dinah McNicol, from Essex, and Vicky Hamilton, 15, from Redding in Falkirk, were found in the garden of Tobin's former home in Margate, Kent.

A Scottish Prison Service spokeswoman said: "We do not comment on individual prisoners.

"We can confirm a prisoner was taken to hospital and has now returned to the establishment."
