Missing Edinburgh teenager's mother 'distraught'

Wanessa Strzelecka has not been in contact with family and friends since Tuesday

The mother of a teenage girl who went missing after leaving for college five days ago is "distraught".

Police say Wanessa Strzelecka's family are worried because the 15-year-old has a health condition for which she needs to take medication every day.

She has no access to this.

The Edinburgh College student was last seen by her mother as she left for classes on Tuesday. Police said she did not make it to the campus in the city's Sighthill area.

Insp Neil Clyde said: "We don't believe she has got access to that medication and that is raising our concerns."

The inspector added that the teenager's mother was understandably upset: "It's a long time for a 15-year-old girl to be away," he said.

"This is a direct appeal for Wanessa to get in touch and let us know she is safe and well."

Wanessa was last seen leaving home in Hay Gardens in Niddrie at 11:00 on Tuesday and there has been no contact with friends or family since.

The teenager is white, 5ft tall, slim and has long blonde hair, normally tied in a ponytail.

When last seen, she was wearing a black puffa jacket with a fur hood and black leggings, with black, blue and pink trainers.
