Tesco Bank to create 100 tech jobs at Edinburgh base

Tesco Bank is to create 100 new technology jobs at its Edinburgh base.

The company is recruiting test, software and systems engineers, systems architects, solution designers, project managers, and IT and business analysts.

A further 20 jobs will be created in Newcastle as part of a wider investment in online banking.

This is in addition to 20 roles created when Tesco Bank announced Newcastle as the home for a new "leading-edge technology hub" in November.

Tesco closed one of its Edinburgh offices in 2017 as part of a move which saw 250 customer service roles move out of the city.

The firm's office in the South Gyle area of Edinburgh is its UK headquarters.

Boost for city's tech sector

David Bowerman, chief operations officer at Tesco Bank, said: "It's an exciting time at Tesco Bank as we invest to develop propositions which better meet the needs of Tesco shoppers.

"We know there are deep talent pools in Edinburgh and Newcastle, and we hope to tap into these further."

Scotland's Finance Secretary Derek Mackay said: "This latest investment by Tesco Bank will further add to Edinburgh's - and Scotland's - appeal as a destination for highly-trained tech jobs, and help to create a more dynamic and innovative side to our financial sector."

The boost for the city's technology sector comes after online food delivery company Deliveroo announced plans to create 70 highly-skilled jobs at a new Edinburgh HQ.

It follows the company's acquisition of Edinburgh software firm Cultivate.

The new roles, which will more than treble the company's Edinburgh workforce, will include engineers, designers and data scientists.
