Bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious package at Edinburgh Central mosque.

The alarm was raised at the mosque in the city's Newington at about 09:30 on Tuesday.

Nicolson Square has now been reopened to pedestrians and traffic.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman thanked the public for their patience and said: "It has been established that the item posed no risk to the public and was innocent in nature."
