Fife manufacturer goes into liquidation with loss of 32 jobs

The company had been operating in Tayport since 1971

A Fife firm which supplied equipment to the food and drink industry for 52 years has gone into liquidation with the loss of 32 jobs.

Tayport-based Foodmek Ltd said it had experienced a "significant slowdown" in orders.

The firm said it operated profitably during the pandemic due to contracts for the pharmaceuticals industry.

The firm has applied to the court to appoint Shona Campbell of Henderson Loggie as liquidator

Managing director Scot Kelly said it was a sad day for the company.

He said: "We manufacture capital equipment and have been very busy quoting for new contracts.

"Unfortunately, decisions have been deferred or projects cancelled due to economic uncertainty, caused by the war in the Ukraine and spiralling energy costs.

"Foodmek has been a good employer in the Tayport area for generations, bringing many apprentices through training and we will always be grateful to our staff."

Shona Campbell said: "The directors have been trying very hard to overcome the challenges to continue the business, but regrettably it has not been possible.

"Employees have been informed and will receive all the necessary guidance and support to ensure they receive their full employment entitlements."
