A group of around 50 people clashed with police in Edinburgh on bonfire night

Two 15-year-olds have been charged in connection with preparing petrol bombs and firing fireworks at police during the violent disorder in Edinburgh on Bonfire Night.

Officers said the teenagers were among eight male youths arrested.

Six suspects, aged between 14 and 16, have been charged in connection with possession of fireworks and associated disorder in Southhouse and Gracemount.

The 15-year-olds were arrested over a mass disturbance in Niddrie.

Police said other suspects have been identified in connection with the trouble on 5 November and appealed for anyone with information to come forward, external.

Ch Insp Kieran Dougal said: "The disorder seen in the capital on Bonfire Night was completely unacceptable and these charges show our continued commitment to identifying and tracing those involved in the incidents."

A total of seventeen people across Edinburgh and Glasgow have now been arrested and charged.

Officers announced a number of arrests earlier this week and said the Operation Moonbeam investigation was ongoing.

Edinburgh saw the worst Bonfire Night violence this year.

A group of 50 people threw fireworks and petrol bombs at riot police during the trouble in Niddrie, which started at about 16:40.

Police also responded to incidents in Glasgow and Dundee.
