Boy dies after being hit by bin lorry in Edinburgh

An 11-year-old boy has died after being hit by a bin lorry while he was riding a bicycle in Edinburgh.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Whitehouse Road, at the junction with Braehead Road, at about 08:20.
The boy was pronounced dead and his family has been made aware. The bin lorry driver was not injured.
He is the second child killed after being hit by a bin lorry in Scotland this month.

'Always smiling'
The boy was a pupil at Cramond Primary School. Head teacher Helen Donaldson said he was "always smiling" and that he was a "positive, friendly and curious" boy.
She said: "We are utterly devastated by the tragic news of the sudden death of one our pupils. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
"He was kind and always eager to support others, and will be greatly missed by all of us."
Education convener Cllr Joan Griffiths added: "My heartfelt sympathies go out to the whole school community and anyone who has been affected by what has happened. We will be providing support to pupils and all the staff at the school."
The lorry involved is owned by waste haulage firm NWH Group.
Its managing director, Gavin Money, said he was aware of "an incident involving one of our vehicles".
He added: "As a result, we are working closely with the emergency services and authorities as part of the on-going investigation."
On 8 February, Elizabeth Bell, 11, died a week after being hit by a bin lorry on the A6105 near East Gordon in the Scottish Borders.
The Earlston Primary School pupil lived in East Gordon.
