A 77-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal after a car crashed into an Edinburgh tenement.

The vehicle became wedged between the main door and basement flat of the building in Cumberland Street in the city's New Town at about 20:30 on Friday night.

Police and fire crews were sent to the scene, but were initially unable to recover the car.

It was eventually freed at about 23:00.

The stairs of the building and an iron fence were damaged in the collision.

No-one was understood to be injured in the incident.

City of Edinburgh Council building teams were sent out to make sure the building was safe.

The owners of one of the affected properties, understood to be an Airbnb, have been contacted.
