The move follows an budget error by council officials
A controversial plan to close or merge 27 schools in South Lanarkshire is expected to be scrapped.
The council has decided to stage a special executive meeting on 20 October to review the plans which it initially said could save £40m.
The move comes after it emerged that officials had overestimated by about £40m the amount of savings needed to balance the council's budget.
The initial figure of £120m has since been revised down to about £80m.
News of the special executive meeting is being delivered to parents via pupils on Friday.
