Mrs Jaconelli will hear the outcome of her appeal within 28 days

A Glasgow grandmother has returned to court in her legal battle against council plans to demolish her home to make way for the Commonwealth Games.

Glasgow City Council has been granted a compulsory purchase order for Margaret Jaconelli's tenement flat in the city's Dalmarnock area for £30,000.

The 52-year-old said this was not enough to buy another house and was appealing against an eviction order.

A decision on her case is expected at Glasgow Sheriff Court within 28 days.

The flat where Mrs Jaconelli has lived for 34 years is in an area that has been earmarked for the athletes village at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

She is now the only remaining resident in the tenement.

Written judgement

At a previous calling of the case, Sheriff Charles McFarlane QC granted the council permission to evict Mrs Jaconelli within 48 hours.

But she has been allowed to stay in her property at Ardenlea Street until her appeal has been heard.

The case at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, heard legal arguments from Mrs Jaconelli's lawyer, Mike Dailly, and Glasgow City Council.

Sheriff Principal James Taylor will now consider their points before issuing a written judgement within 28 days.

Mrs Jaconelli will then either be evicted from her home or allowed to have the case heard again.
