'Old Firm link' to attack on girl outside Glasgow pub

Police investigating a brawl outside a Glasgow pub which left a teenage girl seriously injured are not ruling out a link to the ill-tempered Old Firm game.

BBC Scotland understands that police are considering a football-related violence link to the incident outside the Lovat Arms Pub in Yoker.

Six men were arrested after a fight at 2315 GMT on Wednesday which left an 18-year-old with serious head injuries.

It took place after Celtic beat Rangers 1-0 in a volatile Scottish Cup replay.

The injured girl was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Western Infirmary where she is currently in a stable condition.

The six men arrested were all aged between 16 and 23 years old.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them.

The game between Celtic and Rangers, which ended shortly before the brawl, has been described by police and politicians as "shameful".

Police made 34 arrests at Celtic Park during the match which also saw three red cards and several confrontations on the touch-line and tunnel.

Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond has agreed to host a summit next week between the clubs and the Scottish Football Association in a bid to address growing police concerns about Old Firm-related disorder.
