Colin McRae's widow in helicopter data recorder call

The widow of rally champion Colin McRae has called for private helicopters to be fitted with a flight data recorder.

Alison McRae made her call at a fatal accident inquiry into a helicopter crash which killed her husband and five-year-old son Johnny.

They died along with Ben Porcelli, six, and 37-year-old Graeme Duncan when the aircraft flown by Mr McRae crashed near his home in Lanark in September 2007.

The inquiry heard previously there was no flight recorder on the helicopter.

The group had been returning to the landing strip at McRae's home after a short trip to a friend's farm.

Mrs McRae's comments were contained in a sworn statement which was read at Lanark Sheriff Court.

The inquiry is now expected to hear evidence from air accident investigators.
