Steel mural of Billy Connolly to go up in Anderston
- Published
A huge steel mural of Billy Connolly is being created at a housing development in Glasgow.
Acclaimed artist Andy Scott is moulding the 20ft (6m) by 16ft (4.8m) which will hang from a wall at the Sanctuary Scotland development in Anderston.
The housing association decided to honour the comedian as he was born in Anderston.
The Billy mural will overlook the expressway and the shipyards where the comic once worked as a welder.
The mural is going on the gable end of Phase 1 of Sanctuary Scotland's £50m regeneration of Anderston.
Mr Scott's work includes the heavy horse sculpture on the M8 and the 33ft mermaid on the A80 at Cumbernauld.
To date, the artist has created more than 70 public sculpture and architectural commissions.
His work is also on display in Belfast, Spain and Australia.
The mural is due to be erected by the end of the year.
