A village in North Lanarkshire has been given £2.34m lottery funding to build a new community hub.

The grant for Newmains Community Trust is one of the largest ever awarded by the Big Lottery Fund in Scotland.

It will pay for a new facility in the former mining village which can offer space for young and older people and outreach services for careers advice.

The lottery funding is from the Our Place scheme which aims to help five communities in the west of Scotland.
