Woman dies in three-car crash near Stewarton

A 52-year-old woman has died and an 18-year-old man is in a critical condition following a crash in East Ayrshire.

The accident happened on the B769 near Stewarton at about 18:35 on Sunday.

The crash involved a southbound Vauxhall Corsa and a northbound Peugeot 206. A Fiat 500 travelling behind the Corsa overturned as the driver tried to avoid the collision.

The woman who died was a passenger in the Peugeot. The 18-year-old was a passenger in the Corsa.

He is being treated in hospital for head and abdominal injuries. Staff described his condition as critical.

The driver of the Corsa, also 18, is being treated for shoulder and arm injuries and is in a stable condition.

The 64-year-old driver of the Peugeot is also in a stable condition in hospital.

The 18-year-old Fiat driver was released from hospital after receiving treatment for an arm injury.

Police have appealed to anyone with information about the crash to contact them.
