Kelvingrove Park bandstand to host summer music festival

Alison Moyet, Steve Earle and Teenage Fanclub are among the performers who will play at Kelvingrove bandstand

A music festival featuring high-profile acts is to be held over two weekends at the newly-refurbished £2m bandstand in Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park.

Teenage Fanclub, Squeeze, Alison Moyet, The Waterboys, Capercaillie and Steve Earle will perform at Magners Summer Nights from 7-10 and 14-16 August.

The 90-year-old venue, which holds 2,500 people, was closed in 1999 after falling into disrepair.

Tickets for the festival go on sale on Friday 9 May at 09:00.

The festival will feature a "village" selling beverages and food. Gates will open at 18:00 each night.

'Strong line up'

Paul Condron, marketing director for Magners Irish Cider said: "2014 is an incredible year for Glasgow, a city that rightly enjoys a great reputation for music.

"We're sure that Magners Summer Nights will add to this reputation and we're delighted to bring such a strong line up of UK and international artists to the Kelvingrove Bandstand.

Capercaillie's Karen Matheson added: "We are delighted to be playing at this wonderful new festival.
