An investigation is under way after a female's body was found beside a busy road in Clydebank.

The discovery was made at about 12:45 off Great Western Road in the West Dunbartonshire town.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said the death was currently being treated as "unexplained" and inquiries were at an early stage.

The area where the body was found has been cordoned off and a police forensic team is at the scene.

A post-mortem is due to take place to establish the exact cause of death.

The A82 has been closed between the Kilbowie roundabout and the Drumry roundabout and local diversions are in place.
