Thousands take part in British pipe band championships

More than 4,000 pipers and drummers braved wet conditions to take part in the British Pipe Band Championships in Paisley.

The event, said to be only second in size to the World Pipe Band Championships, featured 123 bands.

The competition attracted a large crowd to see pipers from as far afield as the USA, Belgium and Denmark.

Renfrewshire Council said the event is expected to generate more than £300,000 for the local economy.
