Work continues to clear tonnes of debris from the A83

The old military road at the Rest and Be Thankful in Argyll will close again overnight as a yellow weather warning comes into force across the country.

The A83 at the popular beauty spot has been closed since heavy rain caused the displacement of 6,000 tonnes of debris a week ago.

The old military road opened as a diversion on Saturday morning but closed temporarily on Monday due to forecast heavy rain.

It will close again from 21:00.

All traffic will be diverted on to the standard diversion route via the A83, A82, A85 and A819.

Safety assessments will take place at first light on Wednesday to determine if it is safe to reopen the local diversion route.

A Met Office yellow weather warning is currently in force for thunderstorms across most of the country until midnight.

Eddie Ross of Bear Scotland said: "The warnings indicate that localised heavy downpours could sporadically occur overnight which could have an impact on the loose debris present in the channels above the road."
