A 60-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a woman who died at a house in North Lanarkshire.
Colin Kennedy is accused of killing 54-year-old Catherine Stewart on Sunday.
Police went to the property on Torrance Avenue in Airdrie following a report of a serious assault.
Mr Kennedy was remanded in custody after appearing at Airdrie Sheriff Court. No plea was entered on his behalf and the case was committed for further examination.
The accused is expected to appear in court again within the next eight days, the Crown Office confirmed.
Det Insp Gordon Sneddon of Police Scotland said: "Our thoughts are very much with Catherine's family at this time.
"They have asked for their privacy to be respected, as they come to terms with their tragic loss."
