Third murder suspect in court over Greenock death

A third man has appeared in court charged with murdering a man who was shot outside his home in Inverclyde.

Neil Canney, 37, was found injured on Nairn Road, Greenock in the early hours of 28 February. He was taken to hospital in Glasgow, where he died.

Martin McCusker, 38, from Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court where he made no plea to the murder charge.

Two other men faced a murder charge at the same court on Monday.

Jack Benson, 22, from Port Glasgow in Inverclyde, and Dale Russell, 28, from Wishaw, entered no plea at the petition hearing and were remanded in custody.

Mr McCusker was also remanded in custody to reappear in court within the next eight days.

Another man, aged 27, has been arrested in connection with the death.

Police said the investigation into Mr Canney's death was continuing.
