Pedestrian, 83, dies after being struck by lorry in Lanark

A pedestrian has died after he was struck by a lorry in South Lanarkshire.

Police Scotland said the incident happened at about 14:50 BST on Monday on the A743 High Street, Lanark.

The 83-year-old, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes lorry was not injured.

The road was closed to allow for an investigation and reopened at about 19:30. Police have appealed for witnesses, external to come forward.

Sgt Gemma Blackadder, of the road policing unit in Motherwell, said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this difficult time.

"We are working to establish the full circumstances which led to this incident, and I would urge anyone who may have information to get in touch.

"We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision."
