Police hunt Audi car after Greenock street death

Detectives are appealing for information to help trace a car involved in the death of a Greenock man.

Michael Beaton, 35, was found with serious injuries on the town's Drumfrochar Road around 19:20 on Sunday.

He died a few hours later at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Mr Beaton was struck by a car and then attacked with a bladed weapon.

Officers are now appealing to the public for any information about the vehicle, a white Audi Q2 which is believed to be accident-damaged.

Det Ch Insp Lynsey Watters urged anyone who saw the car around the time of the incident, or who has any other information, to get in touch, external.

"This was an extremely violent attack that has shocked the local community.

"I would like to reassure those living in the area that everything possible is being done to trace those responsible and that there will be an increased police presence in the area while enquiries continue," she said.

She also asked people to check their dashcam and doorbell footage in case they have captured something which could help the inquiry.
