A man has been reported to prosecutors after a dog attack left two men injured and the animal shot dead by police.

Officers were called to Tinto View, Hamilton, on Tuesday to deal with a large bulldog-type dog that was "dangerously out-of-control".

One man was taken to hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries, the other suffered minor injuries.

A 48-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal over offences relating to the Dangerous Dog Act.

Police said the dog had tried to attack an officer before it was shot dead by armed officers.

It is not known if the dog involved was an XL Bully.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The body of the dog was taken for special veterinary assessment however it was not possible to establish its specific breed."
