Three people in hospital after fire in Glasgow block of flats

Three people have been taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a block of flats in Glasgow's south side.

Emergency services were called to Copland Road in the Ibrox area of the city following reports of a house fire at about 14:35 on Tuesday.

The fire is said to have started in a ground floor flat.

Three people were rescued from the blaze and taken to hospital for treatment. Their condition is not known.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.35pm on Tuesday, 13 February, to reports of a dwelling fire on Copland Road, Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances, and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a ground floor flat. Crews worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene."

"Three casualties were rescued and put in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service."

One eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, told BBC Scotland News the street was "chaos" and there was "smoke everywhere".

They added they heard a woman running up and down the street "screaming for help".

The road was closed for a short time but has since reopened.
