Man, 70, charged with assault after woman found dead in Ayr

Police were called to the property on Whitletts Road on Saturday

A 70-year-old man has appeared in court charged with assault after a woman was found dead at a house in Ayr.

Police Scotland were called to reports of a disturbance at the property on Whitletts Road at 16:45 on Saturday. The body of a woman was found inside.

The force said her death was being treated as unexplained. A spokeswoman said inquiries into the full circumstances were continuing.

Kenneth Davies made no plea when he appeared before Ayr Sheriff Court.

Mr Davies, from Ayr was remanded in custody. He faces an assault to severe injury charge and a charge of assaulting or impeding a police officer.
