A man has died four days after being hit by a car near a level crossing in Motherwell.

The 68-year-old was struck by the white Ford Puma on the Bellshill Road junction with Logans Road at about 21:10 on Sunday 17 March.

The pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, however he was pronounced dead on Thursday.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence.

Police said inquiries into the incident were ongoing.

The woman stopped her vehicle following the collision, but her car was then hit from behind by a blue Vauxhall Corsa.

No-one else was hurt in the crash, a Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed.

Sgt Stewart Taylor from the Motherwell road policing unit said officers were keen to hear from any other drivers who may have been in the area at the time of the collision.

He asked for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward, external.
