Man, 88, on mobility scooter dies after crash with cars

An 88-year-old man has died after his mobility scooter was involved in a crash with two cars in Paisley.

Police said the incident happened on Gauze Street, at its junction with Silk Street, at about 20:00 on Monday.

Officers said the collision involved a red Volkswagen Golf and a red Vauxhall Astra.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died a short time later.

There were no reports of any other injuries and the road was closed for around seven hours.

Sgt Robert Mackie said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at what is a very difficult time."

"Our inquiries are ongoing, and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the crash or who may have information which could assist us to get in touch."
